IT MATTERS
Understnading Why
Understanding why these issues matter is essential – because they don’t just affect individuals; they impact families, communities and the future of human rights.
When we acknowledge the harm and stand together against it, we move closer to a world where everyone is protected, valued and able to thrive.

Criminalization of Identity
When someone’s very identity is treated as a crime, it strips them of safety, dignity, and basic human rights. Criminalization forces LGBTQIA+ individuals to live in fear - unable to seek help, report abuse, access healthcare, or express themselves freely. It matters because no one should ever be punished for who they are and ending criminalization is essential to protecting lives and ensuring equality.
Workplace Discrimination
LGBTQIA+ individuals often face unfair treatment, job loss, or hiring barriers simply because of their identity. This traps people in poverty, limits their potential, and prevents them from building stable, independent futures. It matters because everyone deserves equal economic opportunities and the right to work without fear, prejudice, or harassment.
Violence & Homelessness
Targeted violence, family rejection, and community hostility leave many LGBTQIA+ people without safe housing or protection. Homelessness increases vulnerability to exploitation, hunger, and further violence. This matters because safety and shelter are basic human needs—and no one should ever have to choose between being themselves and having a place to live.
Social Isolation & Equity
Many LGBTQIA+ individuals are cut off from family, friends, and community support due to stigma and fear. Isolation affects mental health, self-worth, and the ability to thrive. It matters because connection is vital; feeling seen, accepted, and supported can be life-changing. Community saves lives.
